simple syrup

for sweetening iced tea or iced coffee, or to sprinkle on cakes to freshen and add moisture
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
in a small saucepan, dissolve 1 cup of sugar into 1 cup water, stirring.  let it boil long enough to thicken slightly. 
store in the refrigerator for up to one month.

note: you can add vanilla or spice if desired
